Beloved is a model for a culture that understands the depth of our connection with each other, to the planet, and to our souls. Beloved is all of the names and forms of the Divine, affirming their Unity.

We respectfully present sacred music from diverse global traditions; we acknowledge conscious dance music as fitting into the broader context of sacred and healing music.  Beyond a unique mix of sacred music from around the world, we offer interactive art installations, live painting, local organic cuisine, and educational programming—including workshops on yoga, healing, relationships, social and environmental justice, and the music and wisdom of ancient cultures.

Our goal is to dissolve the boundaries that isolate us through music, dance, and play. We demand of ourselves that, in the pursuit of our goals, we deepen our own connection to, and respect for, the earth and that we educate and inspire participants to do the same.

Open Your Voice~Open Your Heart! A 4 week vocal opening workshop!

Open Your Voice~Open Your Heart! A 4 week vocal opening workshop!

We have inside of us the most magical instrument of all… our VOICE! As part of the fabric of this life, each one of us has a particular part to sing and play. If we leave our voice out of the beautiful tapestry of sounds around us, there is something missing from the whole!

In this culture many have grown accustomed to allowing the incredibly life-giving practice of singing to be left to those who are pop stars or who supposedly the ones that have a ‘good voice.’ It is so common to hear the stories about parents, or teachers saying something to break a young person’s spirit or keep them from continuing to sing as they grow or in some other way disregarding the fact that music and singing is for EVERYONE!!

It is time for us all to re-write these stories. The real and authentic expression of each one of us through the voice is VITAL and interesting for all.

Through group exercises, movement, songs and lots of connecting and support, join Kavita as she guides us to unpack our stories and allow for the softening of our self critic and the opening of our own path to voice. We will use Bhakti yoga and other vocal opening paths to warm & open our hearts!

4 Week Workshop this May-June in Portland, Oregon.

Being Here Now: In the Middle of Everything ~ Satsang & Retreat!

to Apr 17

Being Here Now: In the Middle of Everything ~ Satsang & Retreat!

“Being Here Now in the Middle of Everything” A three-day retreat at Breitenbush Hot Springs, immersed in bhakti and Buddhist practice, in the forested mountains of Oregon.

In April, Kavita will join author and contemplative thinker, Rameshwar Das of Love Serve Remember Foundation and Betsy Anjani Toll founder of Living Earth Oregon to explore devotional practices and teachings from the Buddhist, bhakti, and nondual wisdom paths. We will celebrate Ram Dass’ Life and teachings in the month of his birthday and at a place he taught for 20 years.

These are the currents that flow with grace, humor, and love from Neem Karoli Baba, known as Maharajji. Together they nurture our capacity to live with compassion, vibrant courage, and simple ease in challenging times.

We'll balance meditation, discourse, and dialogue with chanting, yoga, and conversation. Laughter, tenderness, and some of Ram Dass' stories of his time with Maharajji will all mix into this rich, nourishing feast.

Morning and afternoon sessions in the River Yurt each day will break periodically to allow time to rest, soak, hike, and enjoy the beauty of Breitenbush. Evening sessions will feature call-and-response kirtan, sacred chants, and question-and-answer opportunities.

On Saturday : April 13th -

Harmonium & Chanting II ~ A four week workshop!

A continuation to the Introduction to Harmonium & Chanting workshop or a way for those with familiarity with the harmonium OR kirtan practice to take their skills to the next level!

We will come together to chant and sing for 4 consecutive Wednesdays. Each evening we will engage in actively supporting participants strengths and desires, while learning technique and gaining confidence. Beginning as always with singing into the drone, we will start to hone our playing technique and get some experience presenting and sharing chanting with others.

Our final evening we will offer a shared kirtan and participants will organize instrumentation and invite friends. All are welcome, whether the harmonium is your instrument or if you play another, or if you are simply looking to sing and be accompanied.

Harmoniums will be available to play during class and there may be some availability to borrow one if needed during a portion of the workshop duration. If you have one, or play another instrument please bring it. If you would like to play something and don't have it, inquire and let's see what we can come up with!

The Turning : Winter Solstice

In the space of a breath – a heartbeat – on Winter Solstice, a fine ray of light shows on the eastern horizon of our dreams. We'll gather on Solstice night!

Dancers and dreamers, artists and activists, workers and wanderers, come! As the Sufi poet Rumi wrote,

Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
It doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair!
Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times.
Come yet again, come, come.

We will share a candle lighting ceremony and circle dance as we turn all we are leaving behind into rich compost for the seeds of beauty and hope that we plant for the coming year. Let's bow to this moment of mystery and turn our hearts toward the light.

Kavita Kat MacMillan & Sean Frenette will cast musical nets for us to chant with and dance with that will capture our hearts and intentions. They will be joined by other local poets and artists, soon to be announced!

WHEN: Friday, Dec. 21, 7:30 PM.
Doors open at 7:00.
WHERE: Friends Meeting House
4312 Southeast Stark St. (map)

Hot cider and sweets to welcome you before the ceremony.

Purchase tickets now! Advance tickets will help us plan the space and the program.

Suggested donation $25 (sliding to $10).
Kids who are comfortable with contemplative spaces are welcome, too. Under 10: free. Or 11-17: $5.

Cash, check, or card at the door. Modest means are not a barrier – everyone is welcome.

Benefit Kirtan & Life Celebration for Matura Seva

Sunday December 9th, 2018  - 7-9 pm
@Whirled Pies
199 W 8th Ave, Eugene, OR
541-338-9333

In October the Bhakti community suffered the loss of a beautiful soul.  Bhakti musician, spiritual teacher, author, friend & mentor  ~ Matura Seva.

Matura spent his life spreading the message of Bhakti yoga.   He lived for a time as a prominent member of an ashram where he taught and held space for spiritual practice.  As a family man he raised 2 children with his wife Krishnangini, ran a business, wrote books about spiritual life, was an Ayurvedic consultant and performed and shared as a life-long musician.  The last few years of his life he could be found offering kirtan with his band Bhakti Shakti and hosting a local radio show devoted to the yoga & Bhakti music community.  Check out Matura's music & offerings here.

On December 8th there will be a Celebration of Life service for Matura to take place at Unity of the Valley in South Eugene, on Saturday December 8th beginning at 11.00 a.m

On December 9th there will be a musical celebration and silent auction with many of the musicians and friends who played with Matura sharing his music and their own offerings in his honor including: Shanti Shivani, Glenn Falkenburg, Jesse Whitworth, Jaya Lakshmi & Ananda, and others.  I am super honored to be leading some of Matura's chants this evening.

The silent auction is an opportunity to support Matura's family in this time of transition & healing.  Friends also can give at a go-fund-me-page here.

We all miss Matura and feel him shining brightly as he journeys onward.

Open Your Voice Open Your Heart

Kavita’s transformational movement and vocal opening workshop!

**Unfortunately this needed to be postponed to SPRING 2019. Shifts in the Bhakti calendar in the Pacific Northwest so I can support my brother Matura Seva’s family and community with kirtan offerings in Eugene Dec 1st and Dec 9th.

Please be in touch for the March 2019 Open your voice ~ Open your heart retreat!!

details:

We have inside of us the most magical instrument of all… our VOICE! As part of the fabric of this life each one of us has a particular part to sing and play.

If we leave our voice out of the beautiful tapestry of sounds around us, there is something missing from the whole! In this culture many have grown accustomed to allowing the incredibly life-giving practice of singing to be left to those who are pop stars or who supposedly the ones that have a ‘good voice.’

It is so common to hear the stories about parents, or teachers saying something to break a young person’s spirit or keep them from continuing to sing as they grow or in some other way disregarding the fact that music and singing is for EVERYONE!!

DEC 1-2 - location & restration details TBA !! - near Portland, OR. get in touch with Kavita for more info / to be put on the list!
